Convert Live Photos to stills in bulk
Remove motion and sound you no longer need. Review photos individually or select several in Bulk Mode.
Updated September 4, 2026 · iPhone with iOS 17 or later
Conversion creates a new still photo. The Live original uses storage until it leaves Recently Deleted.
Before you start
Keep or back up irreplaceable Live Photos. Start with a small group and check the results before permanently deleting originals.
You get 1 GB of cleanup free. Scan and review your library before deciding on the optional lifetime unlock.
Convert
- Allow photo access. Open Live Photo Cleaner+ and choose which photos it can access. Limited access may exclude photos you expect to see.
- Finish the scan. Check estimated recoverable storage; actual changes in iPhone Storage may differ.
- Select photos. Filter and select multiple photos in Bulk Mode. For individual decisions, use Today’s Quick 10, a date, or an album in Swipe Review.
- Check each action. Convert keeps a still replacement; Keep leaves the Live Photo unchanged; Delete removes it without a replacement.
- Confirm. The app prepares still replacements before moving converted originals to Recently Deleted. If conversion fails, check the result and reported error before retrying.
Reclaim storage
Check your new stills in Photos. Open Recently Deleted, unlock it if asked, and permanently delete only the originals you no longer need. Leave unrelated deleted photos alone.
Apple normally keeps deleted photos for 30 days; you can let them expire instead. After permanent deletion, recovery is no longer available. The app cannot empty Recently Deleted. Apple’s deletion and recovery guide.
iCloud Photos
Cloud-only originals may need to download before conversion. Allow enough working space and a reliable connection.
Library changes—including removal of Live originals and addition of still replacements—sync to other devices on the same iCloud Photos account.
With Optimize iPhone Storage, the original video may not be fully stored on your phone, so local savings can differ from estimates. Let Photos finish syncing and updating its storage calculation.
Quality and metadata
The app preserves format where possible, including HEIF, plus supported dates, locations, favorites, and editable album membership. Each replacement is a new asset; some embedded metadata, editing history, or Live Photo effects may differ. Check edited photos and special effects before removing originals.
Stills contain no motion or sound. To restore either, recover the Live original while it remains in Recently Deleted.
